Is two inches really the thing
Probably not on its own, and we are not going to pretend a wedge fixes how a room treats you. Plenty of the men writing about this say the same thing, and they are right.
What it does change is the first two seconds, before anybody has heard you speak. If the very first thing said about you in a meeting has been your height often enough that you have started expecting it, removing that opening line is worth something on its own.

Will people at work notice?
That depends how much you add. Two inches is noticeable to people who see you daily; the smallest lift usually is not, and that is the one we would start with if the point is to avoid comment rather than to be tall.
Do they work in dress shoes?
Any shoe with a closed heel, which includes oxfords, derbies and most loafers. Your heel sits higher, so a shoe that already slips at the heel will slip less and a shoe that is already tight will be tighter.
Can I wear them for a nine-hour day?

What about the gym or getting changed?

Doesn't a heel lift shorten your Achilles?
